MR_808_s1If you want to see Maui like the locals do, you have to rent a moped! Seriously, we had soooo much fun traveling around Lahaina and Kaanapali on one! It took awhile for my boyfriend to convince me to try riding one, but the guys at 808 Mopeds are fantastic – super patient and helpful, they spend as much time as you need to feel comfortable and in control. They first take you over to a quiet side street across from their rental shop where they show you how to control MR_808_s2the speed, braking, feeling your balance, turning – then they spend time coaching you until you have it down, so you can take off and explore! I loved it. We had so much fun going down different side streets, pulling right up by the beach for a swim – no hassles with parking, just the wind in your hair and the sun on your face. They even rent cool Pitbull low-rider mopeds and GoPro cameras too! Their 24-hour rentals are the best deal on the island.

We rented from 808 Moped’s shop in Honokowai on the Lower Road, but they also have a location in downtown Lahaina. They offer Guided Tours, too, and you get to keep the moped for the remainder of the 24-hour rental to explore on your own after. My boyfriend grew up riding dirtbikes, so he wasn’t nervous at all to get on a moped, but I’d never driven one in my life so I was a little apprehensive to try it out. I’m so glad I did! It was much easier than I thought, and way more fun than sitting in a car all day. There’s so many great beach parks all along the highway from Olowalu to Kapalua – I swear we stopped at every one! You can check them out online at, or give them a call at 808-871-RIDE. The only way to travel on Maui if you want to have fun!
