D&D Ukulele Review
When we strolled into Doris & Daniel’s Ukulele in Lahaina Marketplace there were two things which really struck us – the first was “Wow! That’s alot of ukuleles!” and the second was the smell of the hand-carved Koa wood. My son (12 years old) has been learning to play the guitar back home and he seemed rather smitten with ukulele. The first worry of any parent when that happens is of course about the damage to the pocket book, but the prices at D & D Ukulele were fabulous – especially for the quality!
The next thought is “Is this is going to be a worthwhile investment?” – we knew our son loves the guitar, but maybe ukulele isn’t something he could learn easily. Well, that problem was solved with the news that they offer a free lesson with every purchase! That gave us the opportunity to see how quickly our boy adapted the style of the ukulele and really enjoyed the lesson. The teacher was really great and was brimming with Aloha.
The store is in a cute little spot among the restaurants and larger shops, and although it does concentrate mainly on ukuleles, they do offer Hawaiian Souvenirs such as lucky tikis and small purses. All in all we loved this store! You can visit them at the Marketplace in downtown Lahaina, or call them at (808) 661-8388.
